Moments of Bliss (1) – your nearly three year old grandson next to you

Moments of Bliss (1) – your nearly three year old grandson next to you

Moments of Bliss (1)

Raising kids well is not only a “job” and a joy. It’s a mission.
The moments of bliss can be many and few. There are times when it “seems” just so very tough and others pure fun. All is of course dependent on your “state of mind” and tiredness.

It’s these fun moments that we all cherish. Today we had such a moment with our first grandchild. He decided that he wants to sleep in our bed. He is nearly three and not only with an incredible sense of humor but also a very warm child. We of course said yes, who wouldn’t.

We knew that this was just moments of “spoiling” but we were all for it. We also knew that after a while he would either fall asleep or ask to go to home to his own bed. But the time with us is invaluable. So up we go to our bedroom, and he lies down with his little head on the pillow right next to me. It was still early, about 8;30 PM so not really our bed time. Still we put on the TV and lay down with him.

Thus we are on the bed when he looks at me with his big warm brown eyes and says quietly: “I want my pillow”

I was deadbeat so my wife said okay and went next door to our daughter’s place. They have a very nice unit that we branched off our house.

So here she comes back with the pillow and smiling he looks at her and says, “My blanket”. Off she goes again and brings his two soft blankets. He lies down, his head on the pillow facing me, and clutching the corner of one of the blankets says to me “My other cushions, please”.

“Your turn” my wife says “and bring the blue and pink. So off I go to bring the two cushions. He asked so nicely and with a please. What could a grandad do?”

And so, we spent about an hour with him lying next to us. He didn’t fall asleep and we didn’t want to just pick him up or tell him outright that’s it’s time to go. This is done other times, and by his mom or dad. The parents job. So, the boss or ruler of the realm calls our daughter on face time. Only when the little one’s dad came on did he decide that it was time to go home.

And we had a great evening with him. just quietly lying together on the bed watching TV.

Moments like this are the cherished ones.
